In-situ Wildlife Conservation

PARTICIPATION

The indiscriminate destruction of habitats and the massacre of wildlife have continued to escalate because of our silent participation (silent perpetrators) and the complaisant attitudes towards the Bush meat crisis, the pet trade and the souvenir trade. Products from the indiscriminate destruction of habitats have found markets through out the world. Bush meat has become a delicacy to many. The victims of the genocide have continued to be absorbed by circuses, the film and recreational industries, bio-medical research facilities, bars, hotel, beaches and individual collectors. Wildlife animal body parts continue to be demanded for by the fashion and souvenir industries.

In order to stop the Bush meat crisis, we first and foremost have to reverse the general misconception that luck of food or abject poverty is the cause for the escalation of the Crisis. Those hunting for luck of food are not involved in the storage of bush meat in freezers or refrigerators, will not sell Bush Meat in butcheries, restaurants, hotels or open markets and will definitely not participate in the mass transport of Flesh via the logging truck and train networks to neighboring towns and cities. We also have to ensure that we are not silent perpetrators of the crisis:

  • Stop the use of blood stained wood and minerals (Resources obtained by the destruction of wildlife Eco-systems);

  • Stop the commercial consumption of Bush meat in all its forms, even if the supplier claims that it is farmed meat. Your demand will create the supply and thus the continued slaughter of the innocent;

  • Stop any association with the wildlife pet industry and the continued exploitation of animals in circuses, films, bio-medical research, bars, hotel, beaches etc;

  • Stop the use of wildlife/animal body parts either as fashion, remedies spiritual portions or as souvenirs;

  • As a tourist, ensure that your agent is actively involved in the long term in-situ community development;
