The bio-diversity of the earth has evolved over millions of years to occupy every ecological niche. This is an essential prerequisite to the survival and the maintenance of the ‘Circle of life’ and has provided for the needs of every component of the food chains and web.

Thousands of species have already been lost for ever (extinct), many cry for mercy on the verge of extinction, innocent blood has and still continues to be shed every second of every day. The pain, misery, suffering, anguish, hunger and thirst that man has caused are beyond description and are tantamount to genocide. We now have to contend with the phenomenon called the “Bush meat crisis” with gruesome ramifications, the pet and the souvenir trades.

For centuries human habitation along side wildlife shared a uniquely special bond with nature. They practiced sustainable utilization of wildlife and understood the fact that, but as a small component of the eco-system, their very own survival depended on the proper and sustainable utilization of the bio-diversity resources.

Unfortunately over the past few decades, the commercialization of in-situ wildlife and habitats through tourism, the logging and the mineral exploration industries with out benefits to the local communities, have led to over exploitation by the locals for short term benefits.

The inability by international community accept that extinction is not a national but a global loss and thus the absence of international wildlife laws, the inability by local governments to monitor and control multinational investors (logging/mining) and the absence of binding and enforceable international wildlife laws, have caused the bush meat crisis, its escalation, the pet and souvenir trades with impunity.

Life is not a property, at the mercy and disposal of corrupt and even dictatorial regimes most of which disregard international treaties/ conventions or agreements. Extinction cannot be rationalized as a national loss but is a global loss. We therefore call on every one to support this cause.
