The establisment of wildlife Rights
This effort focuses primarily on creating a consensus amongst wildlife conservationists and organizations, that wildlife is global heritage, deserving the right to life & protection with in their natural habitats. This change in status is a key preriquist to addressing species extinction. The current norm that wildlife and habitats are national resources at the disposal of national interests/ priorities, to be protected by local authorities enforcing current wildlife treeties and agreements is the biggest loop hole to conservation efforts. The continued escalation of the Bushmeat crisis, the pet and fur trades of even CITIES protected spcies, is a testament to the impotence of CITIES and TRAFFIC in the face of corrupt, governemt, local wildlife and environmental officials and Authorities. If however wildlife were global heriatages protected by international law - prosecution of these crimes would be possible. Evidence by Karl AMMAN!!
Mandate to monitor Wildlife Crimes
Whilst Traffic is responsible for the monitoring of trade in endangered species, this effort by the I-WC focuses on the creation of a central Gloabla data base on the search for, the monitoring, registration and the documentation of all crimes against wildlife. We call up on any one with information & evidence on crimes against wildlife & habitat destruction to submit this to us for centralized documentation. We are also interested in details of individuals, officials, authorities, governments, local and international companies implicated in these crimes. For further information please do not hesitate to contact us: crimes@insituwildlifeconservation.org
Investigation of crimes against wildlife
This effort focuses on the investigation and processing of all crimes against wildlife. The evidence collected will be investigated and later used for appropriate local and international action against the perpetrators of these crimes. This measure also aims to facilitate efforts of local investigators to prosecute perpetrators swiftly and locally.
Formation of int. Wildlife Laws
The i-wc is in consultation with the United Nations and the international Law commission to ensure the formation of legally binding and enforcable international wildlife and Habitat laws.
The local prosecution of Wildlife crimes and crimes of Habitat degradation.
There is abundant evidence implicating local individuals, officials, authorities and companies in the perpetatration of these crimes, however very very few cases have ever been addressed or prosecuted, due to luck of funds, technical skills in investigation, evidence collection or processing and especially because of the rampant corruption plaguing most countries habouring the endangered species. The I-WC aimes at ensuring that this shortfalls are overcome and appropriate swift action is taken locally against perpetrators.
The international prosecution of Wildlife crimes and crimes of Habitat degradation..
There is also abundunt evidence implicating governments, Wildlife and environmental protection authorities and multinational companies in the perpetration of these crimes, however its impossible to take action or prosecute these perpetrators locally as they are either sanctioned by government or are too powerful financially for any third world country to take action against them. The formation of an international Wildlife Court similar to the International criminal court(ICC) or the extension of the mandate of the ICC to address wildlife and habitat crimes should ensure that swift action can be taken against these perpetrators that are currently outside the reach of the law.
